Bebel Gilberto
Last week, Susan and I went to House of Blues in New Orleans for a concert by Bebel Gilberto, who is, in the words of one critic, the Norah Jones of bossa nova. Great singer, great evening of music, and she had a really hot group of musicians with her. Thoroughly satisfying!

Although lots seems to be written about cell phone etiquette gaffes having to do with having the phone on or talking on it in public places, there is another emerging piece of cell phone etiquette that should be acknowledged: people who think it is offensively rude that you have your cell phone off when they think they should be able to reach you.

Feral parrots
Yesterday, we saw for the first time some of the feral parrots that are now thriving in certain neighborhoods in New Orleans. We spotted them in a section of Jefferson Blvd.'s neutral ground near Magazine St., centered in a palm tree but dining on crepe myrtle seed pods. Quite loud! Quite green! These cockatiel-sized parrots are sometimes called monk parakeets or Quaker parrots.
