If you've got broadband, check out this hilarious commercial on AdCritc.com...if you're on dial-up, it still might be worth the wait for the download.

Is this a tremendous innovation and great free service...or just one more thing to keep track of and explain to people? You make the call!

This map of the population density in my town of New Iberia, LA was generated from the very interesting HUD E-maps site.

Thanks to .Zannah. for finding this bit of road geek's heaven. This site enumerates highway exits, tells you what you'll find at each, and even offers some coupons. This will be solid gold once we all get Internet in our cars, but for now you'll just have to remember to use it to plan ahead.

I signed up yesterday on Yodlee, which is a portal consolidator page. I now can go to my personal Yodlee page and see all my credit card accounts, brokerage accounts, outstanding Amazon.com orders, etc. in one place, along with news, the hottest CNet downloads, etc., all customizable.
Big variety of e-business things you can check up on, along with news, travel, and so on (I even have Yodlee tell me the number of miles I have in my Aadvantage frequent flier account).
Quite nice, and totally free.

Poor Clio is a half-year old today, which I suppose to be some kind of measure of seriousness of purpose, or perhaps lack of enough else to do in my life. I would not have predicted that I would have posted as nearly daily as I have, or as often. I would also not have thought that I would go this long without a major re-design.
Perhaps the best moments here are when I leave town and bring the digital camera. I still get lots of visitors to the pages I created for a couple of weddings I went to this summer, and had lots of nice comments on the pix I took while in Canada in August.
It's been fun to see themes develop, more or less on their own: "Just when you thought it was safe..." "Save the ..." "Dept. of sites whose URLs..." etc.
Thanks to all of you who are steady readers, and of course to those who take the time to comment. Particular thanks to
fellow webloggers who have provided a link or even comment on their own sites.
I look forward to doing more! And I'll try to get out with the camera a little more often. One thing I've thought about doing is installing a Yard Cam; we live on a pretty, tree-lined street that attracts quite a few walkers. What do you think?

Though I would have to say that I particularly enjoyed reading Wayne Johnston's Colony of Unrequited Dreams because Susan and I have just vacationed in Newfoundland, the book was recommended to me by someone who had never set foot on "the rock" and I would heartily recommend it to anyone wanting a good novel, whether you've ever seen Newfoundland yourself or not.
That said, I have to say that reading this book wonderfully explained much of what I wondered about as we toured this remote, stark and oddly beautiful corner of the world in August. It is difficult to be much in Newfoundland without discerning a palpable sense of isolation and yearning. And something else that Johnston portrays with a keen hand: intimacy.
Johnston is a first-rate story teller, and this tale of Newfoundland's unlikely political strongman Joey Smallwood is richly presented and perfectly scaled.
