The signal of KRVS, my local public radio station, can now be heard on Shoutcast. My friend Lee has a Big Band program on Friday nights from 7 to 9 pm Central, rebroadcast Mondays from 9 to 11 pm. Now all the world can enjoy it as much as I do. The rest of the week is a great mix of all kinds of things, from classical to Cajun and zydeco.

The New York City Police have all sorts of great stuff to help you out if you're in trouble. And then there's the bomb squad robot.

If I win sixty or seventy million dollars in the lottery (a possibility that is admittedly curbed by my disinclination to buy lottery tickets) I think I'll add a highly-paid staffer whose only job will be to make sure that the butter is out of the refrigerator and on the counter at least one hour before I want to spread it on my toast.

They want to Keep Manny Ramirez in Cleveland, and are raising money on the Internet to supplement what the Indians have on hand to pay the right fielder should the club's resources fall short of what Ramirez might draw on the open market. At last check, Ramirez was hitting .289. And, so far, the Keep Manny effort has collected $319.21.

Maybe it's because I spent some years working in radio, but I find the RadioVO.com site to be great fun. Whose voice would you select to promote you? Your product? Your event?

What fun! A huge Guide to Animal Sounds on the Net. For instance, the song of the Piranga olivacea, better known to folks like you and me as the Scarlet Tanager. Nicely organized links to various sources, though some are expired or show their age: saw several listing of .mp2 files.

Rain It is finally raining today. We've been suffering through a drought lately, but days like this give us hope that we will once again have the kind of wet Louisiana spring we--and our gardens--are accustomed to.

Truly absorbing photographs by children at Sarajevo: a child's view. Photographer Chris Leslie started going to Sarajevo in 1997, teaching children 6-16 darkroom and photo skills. Chris plans to go back this summer, and add computing and web skills to the mix.

If you're a user of click2send, you might be relieved to note that the service is Y2K compliant. Lingering exceptions like this aside, isn't it funny how Y2Kism has just up and almost totally disappeared...in less than five months?

Center of the universe So the digital camera arrived today, and right out the box I am sharing with you something from my back yard. This is the marker for the Center of the Universe, put here by my friend Raleigh Marcell a few years ago. The true center of the universe is actually about four feet away at the end of one of Susan's flower beds. If Raleigh and I never bothered over the minor discrepancy when the marker was still a mile away at his house--on the theory that with something as big as the cosmos a few hundred yards didn't amount to much--then you can guess that now that we've moved it, this last fifty inches is no big deal. All in all, you might say that I am radically Ptolemaic.

My sister Laura lives in Ft. Wayne, IN, where she is the clinical director of a raptor rehabilitation center. The center's site hosts a FalconCam. Laura says that the real action on the cam should start once the eggs hatch, but in the meanwhile you can enjoy watching a pair of peregrine falcons brood four eggs. I hope I have the lingo right...

I downloaded radiospy over the weekend to try it out. It's a sort of Napster-influenced net radio station finder, full of home-brew DJ sites but also with links to regular broadcast stations with online feeds, etc. Amongst the hidden gems: JingleFever.

Rather than my trying to tell you about it, best you take a look at the extraordinarily stylish new online magazine Zoozoom for yourself.

My poor cats, Garnet and Eggplant, have been suffering through the huge 20-lb. bag of Science Diet that I bought when I was e-mailed a $15 coupon from Pets.Com and bought that in lieu of their favorite Deli-Cat, which was alas not available from the online pet store. They hate Science Diet, unless I put tuna fish juice on it. I don't often put tuna fish juice on it. Now, I think they hate me. But it's just part of my continual gravitation to online shopping. Tonight I sat at this very keyboard and ordered a new digital camera, which may add an occasional dash of color to this weblog once it arrives next week.
